At the Know Yourself Foundation, we imagine future generations of young people who are grounded in themselves, understand their own wellness, that have the ability to navigate life’s circumstances, know they are able to affect their own outcomes, and have the ability to feel compassion and tolerance for others. This is the promise of teaching self-literacy at a young age.
In this world, the value of self-literacy in K-12 education is second nature. The K-12 curriculum pays as much attention to teaching skills that give children a strong sense of identity, confidence, awareness, compassion, and empathy as it does to teaching traditional skills such as math, science, reading, writing, etc.
The Know Yourself Foundation was created to facilitate the goal of making self-literacy part of every child’s education, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, culture or location - resulting in an increased confidence in their abilities and themselves. It’s not a surprise that confident, grounded people are better at everything they do. These are teachable skills, and every child deserves to start life with this critical foundation. Recognizing that self-literacy is the missing component in modern education, we have designed the blueprint for a comprehensive program that will bring self-literacy curriculum to young people across the country and around the world.
Our mission is to reach all kids with self-literacy, and our focus starts with underserved communities first.
We will continue to play a leading role in educational literacy by building strong, caring and compassionate relationships with local and national organizations to create and advance skill-building products and developmental initiatives.
Know Yourself Foundation is the not-for-profit arm of the public benefit corporation, Know Yourself. Their product line combines vetted scientific material with art and storytelling. The result is a series of captivating workbooks, comics and activity kits that help prepare children to make healthy choices and achieve happiness. Products that teach basic anatomy spark a natural curiosity to learn what it means to be human – a curiosity that then stimulates the desire to acquire a deeper understanding of what makes us tick. That desire in turn leads to exploring emotions and psychology, ultimately resulting in greater self-efficacy, which they define as an increased confidence in our abilities and ourselves.
